DelleChiaie sent a message to the White House via a personal email, in which he expressed intentions concerning the president in violent terms.
A 35-year-old mechanic engineer from Nashua, Dean DelleChiaie, has been charged federally for allegedly threatening President Donald Trump. This announcement was made by authorities on Tuesday following DelleChiaie’s arrest on Monday.
The U.S. Attorney's office in New Hampshire reported that DelleChiaie sent a message to the White House via a personal email on April 21, in which he expressed intentions concerning the president in violent terms. The email was addressed directly to President Trump.
Prior to the email, DelleChiaie reportedly made troubling internet searches on his work computer in late January. Following these searches, officials from the U.S. Secret Service conducted an interview with him in February. During this meeting, he allegedly acknowledged the online inquiries and mentioned possessing three firearms, including one secured in a safe at his residence. He is said to have expressed regret about his online activities, calling his behavior 'crazy.'
Currently, DelleChiaie is on paid administrative leave from the FAA. In court, the prosecution argued that he poses a danger to the community and requested that he be detained without bail. Conversely, his defense counsel noted that he has a clean criminal record and sought his release under GPS surveillance.
A judge ruled in favor of the prosecution and ordered that DelleChiaie remain in custody without bail until his trial, which is set for a probable cause hearing on May 19. If found guilty, he may face a prison term of up to five years and a fine reaching $250,000.
