In Windsor, Vermont, the local fire chief intervened to assist an owl in trouble. Chief Kevin McAllister noticed the barred owl being disturbed by crows while he was driving and decided to act.

A bystander joined him in safely capturing the distressed bird. Following the capture, they contacted the Vermont Institute of Natural Science to seek further assistance regarding the owl’s condition.

Tragically, officials from VINS determined that the injuries sustained by the owl were severe enough that euthanasia was necessary.
