Vermont Nonprofit Leader Accused of Embezzling Funds

Authorities in Montpelier have announced that a local nonprofit executive is under investigation for allegedly misappropriating funds. The Central Vermont Economic Development Corporation flagged their executive director, 42-year-old Melissa Bounty from Waitsfield, for reportedly using organizational funds for her personal benefit.

The investigation led by the Montpelier Police Department has revealed that Bounty is accused of embezzling more than $71,000 from the organization between 2022 and 2025. She is scheduled to appear in Washington County Superior Court to face felony embezzlement charges on January 15.
