On Thursday, Governor Phil Scott formalized a new law aimed at establishing stringent standards for the application of artificial intelligence in the context of election campaigns in Vermont.
The recently signed legislation mandates that campaign materials released in the 90 days leading up to an election must clearly disclose the use of AI-generated content, such as images, audio, or video. This disclosure should be sufficiently prominent and easily legible for the general audience.
In addition, the new regulations address the creation of deepfake media involving candidates, introducing specific prohibitions and guidelines to ensure transparency and integrity in campaign communications.
