Drew Bourdeau, the head coach of the men’s lacrosse team at Saint Anselm College, has expressed his concern following the shooting of player Maverick Lyon by the police in Albany, Oregon. The incident occurred when officers responded to a disturbance at a residence on Tuesday. Authorities reported that Lyon approached them wielding a knife, prompting two officers to discharge their weapons, resulting in Lyon sustaining injuries.

Court records reveal that Maverick Lyon’s older brother, John Dakota Lyon, had previously threatened him with a knife, as evidenced by video footage from within the home that shows the brother instructing Maverick to pick up a knife. However, the documents do not provide any specifics regarding the circumstances of the police shooting.

Bourdeau emphasized how integral Maverick Lyon is to the team, describing him as a remarkable teammate who enthusiastically celebrates the success of his peers. After learning about the shooting, Bourdeau admitted he was taken aback, noting the significant role Lyon plays within the team dynamic and the eagerness of his companions to support him during this challenging time.

Currently, Lyon is reported to be in stable condition and is on the path to recovery. Bourdeau, however, has not received any updates regarding when Lyon may be discharged from the hospital. In the meantime, the lacrosse team is uniting and holding onto hope for their teammate’s swift return.

John Dakota Lyon faces charges including kidnapping, attempted assault, and coercion, with investigators indicating that Maverick Lyon is recognized as the victim in this situation.
