New Hampshire is currently experiencing a significant rise in influenza cases, prompting an unprecedented level of hospital transports for affected individuals. The American Medical Response in Manchester reported a record-breaking 70 patients transported within a single 24-hour period on Tuesday.
The spike in hospital visits corresponds with an increase in influenza A cases across both New Hampshire and the entire country. Health officials have identified the H3N2 strain as the prevalent virus, noting its historical tendency to cause more extensive outbreaks and severe symptoms, particularly in older adults and those with pre-existing health issues.
Medical experts emphasize the potential seriousness of the flu, describing symptoms such as high fever, chills, and breathing difficulties. They advise anyone experiencing these signs, especially vague chest pain, to seek emergency assistance right away.
This flu season has proven fatal as well, with at least 12 deaths attributed to the virus among adults in New Hampshire, highlighting the urgency of the situation. The last reported data indicates that six of these fatalities occurred within the previous week.
