The local police department has appointed Officer Matt Perry as its new chief, effective January 1. He takes over from Chief Steve LaMears, who has transitioned to the role of municipal services director after serving in both positions since June. LaMears officially announced his departure on December 19 via a social media update.

Perry, who began his tenure with the Harrisville Police Department in March 2024, is set to pursue additional certification at the New Hampshire Police Academy in the upcoming months.

In addition to the leadership change, the department recently added another member to its team. Ernie Belletete, a retired captain from the Peterborough Police Department, has taken on a part-time officer position, bringing close to 40 years of law enforcement experience.

The town expressed support for Perry and Belletete, encouraging residents to extend their congratulations and a warm welcome to the new chief and officer.
