The fire department from Swanzey reported that a house became unlivable due to a fire that erupted in its ceiling early Tuesday morning, although there were no injuries. Around 3:30 a.m., a call concerning smoke coming from a kitchen ceiling at 88 West St. was received, leading to Winchester Fire Chief Barry Kellom arriving first at the scene. Upon inspection, he discovered flames situated between the first and second levels of the home.

Firefighters worked efficiently to remove the ceiling and managed to extinguish the fire within the floor joists, gaining control of the situation shortly before 5 a.m. Two residents were displaced as a result of the incident. Swanzey Fire Chief Eric Mattson indicated that the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The blaze was mostly confined to the kitchen area, while other parts of the house sustained some smoke and water damage. Fire response efforts included personnel from Swanzey and Winchester, as well as assistance from firefighting teams in Keene, Troy, and Richmond.
