A 44-year-old Windham County man already facing several pending felony charges was arraigned Thursday after police say he entered a home on Chase Street in the early afternoon and tried to leave with a small amount of cash.
Brattleboro police identified the man as Jason Moul, whose residence is listed in Springfield. Authorities said the incident occurred shortly after 1 p.m. last Wednesday at an unoccupied house. Officers took Moul into custody later that afternoon after locating him at the property as he attempted to flee.
Police noted that Moul was under court-ordered conditions of release at the time.
He was arraigned on charges including burglary, resisting arrest, and violating conditions of release. Bail was initially set at $50,000.
Public records indicate Moul has repeatedly cycled through the criminal justice system over the last decade and a half, with nine custodial arrests and close to two years of incarceration during that period. Past cases referenced in online court records include allegations that he broke into a Putney sugarhouse in 2024, and a 2020 arrest in Londonderry involving stolen clothing and a vehicle. Court proceedings in that latter matter were affected when he was ruled incompetent to stand trial in 2022, according to records.
Moul’s current unresolved cases reportedly include allegations such as unlawful trespass of a motor vehicle, theft, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, and multiple alleged violations of release conditions.
Older reports trace Moul’s adult involvement with the system back to 2000, when he reportedly ran from the Windham County Courthouse during an arraignment tied to a marijuana possession charge and alleged violations of release conditions. Records also show citations dating to the late 1990s in the Bellows Falls area, including an allegation involving operating a vehicle without the owner’s consent and a tobacco-related minor infraction.
More recently, court filings describe a police response on Sept. 22, 2024, after reports of a man threatening people with a knife near Main Street. Officers later found Moul near the Brattleboro Transportation Center and said he acknowledged displaying the knife, claiming people “wouldn’t let” him pass. A witness reported hearing him threaten to kill people while holding the knife, according to the filing.
He was released with conditions in that case, and records state he was arrested again on Nov. 3, 2025, in Bellows Falls on another burglary allegation, then released under conditions.
