The executive director of a well-known dog rescue organization has officially transitioned out of her leadership role after three decades of service. Sharron Thomas announced her departure from her position at Fast Friends Greyhound Adoption last week, although she will continue to contribute to the nonprofit in a part-time capacity as engagement director.
Effective January 1, Development Director Amy Roy will take over as the new executive director. With nearly ten years of tenure at Fast Friends, Roy is expected to bring her extensive experience to the leadership role.
Fast Friends Greyhound Adoption, established in 1992, has dedicated itself to finding homes for retired racing greyhounds from various parts of the country. The organization initially operated a shelter adjacent to Hinsdale Greyhound Park as the racing activities diminished and concluded entirely in 2008. Over the years, the mission expanded to include various breeds alongside sighthounds, successfully placing between 60 and 100 dogs each year with loving families, as noted by board Chair Heidi Capodanno.
In a social media update regarding her new position, Thomas expressed confidence in Roy’s ability to lead the organization, highlighting their collaborative work over the years. She mentioned gratitude for the contributions of donors, volunteers, staff, and adopters in furthering the organization’s goals, emphasizing the impact they had in helping many dogs find their forever homes.
The organization also engages in additional services such as grooming, boarding, and doggy daycare and has recently expanded its efforts to rescue dogs from international locations. This includes street dogs from Spain, meat dogs from China, and hunting dogs from Ireland.
