Authorities have confirmed the identities of those involved in a shooting incident that occurred early Thursday morning at the Fox Run Inn, located on Main Street in Ludlow. The event unfolded around 6:15 a.m. when Ludlow Police Chief Jeffrey Warfle responded to an emergency call about a disturbance at the hotel.
Upon arrival, the chief encountered an 18-year-old resident of the inn, Jaime Gomez, who was reported to be behaving erratically and damaging property. Video evidence indicates that Warfle attempted to communicate with Gomez in an effort to calm him down. However, during the exchange with a bystander, Gomez reportedly brandished a knife from his pocket and advanced towards the officer, which led to Warfle discharging his firearm.
Gomez sustained injuries from the incident and is currently reported to be in stable condition at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center. In connection with this event, Vermont State Police have secured an arrest warrant for him, outlining charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and attempted aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. The Vermont Attorney General’s Office, along with the Windsor County state’s attorney, will conduct a thorough investigation of the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
