
A significant diesel fuel leak occurred from a tractor-trailer on Route 12 in Fitzwilliam, leading to a hazmat team activation on Tuesday. Emergency responders managed the situation by working to contain an estimated 100 gallons of spilled fuel.
The incident unfolded shortly after midday near the address of 21 Route 12 South, resulting in the temporary closure of one lane on the roadway. Firefighters from the local Fitzwilliam Fire and EMS Department collaborated with personnel from the Troy, Rindge, and Keene fire departments to address the spill. The Keene Hazardous Materials Unit was also deployed to provide additional expertise for managing the leak.
Efforts by first responders included isolating the spill to reduce any potential environmental damage. Support was provided by the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services as well as the Fitzwilliam Highway Department, contributing to the containment and cleanup initiatives.
Traffic restrictions were implemented on Route 12 during this time to ensure the safety of both responders and motorists. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in connection with the incident.
