In the recent election, Paul Blais was reselected for a position on the Halifax School Board, securing a total of 79 votes, compared to his opponent Sean Youmell who obtained 47 votes. Blais expressed his gratitude towards the residents of Halifax for reaffirming their trust in him and acknowledged the significance of their backing throughout his service.

Blais reflected on his 18-year journey, emphasizing his commitment to understanding the intricacies of Vermont’s educational landscape. This effort has enabled him to stay current with developments and utilize his insights to enhance the experiences of students and staff at Halifax Elementary School. He mentioned the supportive influence of his mentor, Chum Sumner, who played a crucial role in navigating the complexities of school governance and managing the financial realities of smaller educational institutions.

In addition to his role on the school board, Blais was also confirmed as town moderator, facing no opposition in this position. During the same election proceedings, residents approved a town and highway budget totaling nearly $2.5 million. They agreed to allocate $28,000 for recycling bin drop-off and roll-off hauling services and decided to eliminate the position of town auditor. Going forward, annual financial audits will be carried out by a licensed public accountant in Vermont.

Furthermore, the community established a reserve fund for purchases related to highway equipment, raising $20,000 for this initiative. They also sanctioned an additional $30,000 to support the Operational Reserve Fund and earmarked approximately $20,000 for various social service organizations.
