The Department of Justice has published transcripts on a Tuesday that detail a series of brief recordings made by Claudio Manuel Neves Valente, following a tragic shooting incident at Brown University and the fatality of an MIT professor, an act he is accused of committing. In these videos, Neves Valente indicated that he does not feel regret over his actions.
A search warrant was executed by investigators on December 18, 2025, at a storage facility located in Salem, New Hampshire, which Neves Valente reportedly utilized. During this search, federal agents discovered an electronic device that contained multiple short videos where Neves Valente expressed intent to carry out the shooting at Brown University, revealing it had been a long-held plan of his.
The transcripts, translated from Portuguese, conveyed that while Neves Valente did not feel “extraordinarily satisfied” with his actions, he also did not express remorse. Federal authorities confirmed that Neves Valente targeted the college, yet he did not clarify why he aimed at the students or specifically at Nuno Loureiro, an MIT professor who had been his classmate.
A representative from the DOJ remarked that Neves Valente’s demeanor in the recordings reflected a lack of remorse. He managed to shift blame onto the victims, characterizing them as innocent and unarmed, while also showing dissatisfaction over injuries he incurred when he shot the professor at close range. Investigators stated that there is currently no indication of any ongoing threats following the tragic events, and inquiries into the matter will persist.
