Blizzard Mode: Town Office Closures and Cancellations Stack Up

Brattleboro is scaling back in-person services and shutting down several public facilities ahead of an anticipated winter storm expected to bring hazardous conditions through Monday.

Town officials announced that the Brattleboro Municipal Center will be closed to the public on Monday. While the building will not be open for walk-in services, municipal staff plan to work remotely and will be available by email. Department contact information is listed on Brattleboro.gov.

Other local facilities are also adjusting operations. Brattleboro Community Television’s office will be closed on Jan. 26. The Gibson-Aiken Center will be closed Monday, and all evening programs scheduled for that day have been canceled. Brooks Memorial Library will decide whether it will close on Monday morning; residents are encouraged to call ahead at 802-254-5290 to confirm.

The storm may also affect election-related paperwork deadlines. Petitions for Brattleboro town officers, Windham Southeast School District board members, and town meeting members are due by 5 p.m. Monday. Because the Town Clerk’s Office will not be offering in-person services, completed petitions or letters of intent must be submitted via the drop box labeled “Town Business” in the Municipal Center parking lot by the deadline. The town noted that the petition deadline cannot be extended due to weather under state law.

Officials are urging residents and visitors to limit travel as conditions worsen and to plan ahead for building closures and service disruptions.
