Police in Bennington, Vermont, are probing a hit-and-run incident that occurred on Saturday night, resulting in severe injuries to a female pedestrian. The incident took place shortly before 11:30 p.m. on Main Street, where authorities discovered a 25-year-old woman lying in the roadway with critical injuries.

The driver involved in the incident, identified as Richard Coyne Jr., aged 36, allegedly struck the woman and fled the scene. He was subsequently located on School Street by the police, who suspect that he may have been under the influence at the time of the incident.

Coyne has been charged with multiple offenses related to the hit-and-run and is currently being held without the possibility of bail.
