A significant crowd of demonstrators gathered outside the Burlington Federal Courthouse on Tuesday in response to the court appearance of Christian Jerez Andrade. Andrade is among three individuals who were apprehended by ICE during a raid at a residence in South Burlington last week. Notably, officials had neither a warrant for him nor were they targeting him during the operation.

Details from court documentation indicate that Andrade applied for asylum in the United States in 2015. However, his current immigration status remains ambiguous, along with the extent to which he has navigated the legal processes tied to his stay in the country.

Another individual taken during the ICE operation, Johana Patin Patin from Ecuador, was released on Monday. She is currently pursuing an asylum claim after entering the U.S. in 2023. Meanwhile, her sister, Camila Patin Patin, still awaits a scheduled court date in Vermont.

The primary focus of the recent ICE operation was Deyvi Daniel Corona-Sanchez from Mexico, who reportedly re-entered the United States illegally following a removal in 2022. However, representatives from Migrant Justice assert that Corona-Sanchez was absent during the raid.
