In Hinsdale, New Hampshire, residents are preparing for a series of critical financial and policy discussions during the upcoming Town Meeting scheduled for Saturday. The meeting will commence at 9 a.m. in the Hinsdale High School gymnasium.
A significant focus of the meeting will be the proposed operating budget for municipal services, which amounts to $5,431,424. This budget has received recommendations for approval from both the Board of Selectmen and the Budget Committee. It encompasses all departments other than those funded through other warrant articles.
In addition to the general budget, residents will also review two specific budgets linked to user fees rather than general taxation. The Water Department is seeking $712,502, while the Wastewater Treatment Plant and sewer system have a proposed budget of $552,880. These budgets have garnered unanimous support from local officials.
A key infrastructure initiative on the agenda requests $451,563 to cover design, permitting, and construction of improvements on Washburn Way, which includes the creation of a gravel roadway and the installation of culverts. This project will be solely financed through the town’s Tax Increment Financing (TIF) District and is also backed by recommendations from selectmen and the Budget Committee.
Two equipment lease agreements are also slated for consideration. One involves a five-year lease agreement for a Ford Interceptor Police Utility AWD, costing $67,346, with an initial payment of $17,427 due in the first year. Upon completion of the lease, the town will retain ownership of the vehicle. This proposal received a 3-0-1 vote from the Board of Selectmen and unanimous approval from the Budget Committee.
Another lease agreement proposes a five-year acquisition of a Kubota Skid Steer Loader for $56,500, requiring $13,693 for the first year’s payment. Like the police vehicle, the town will own this equipment after the lease period. Both the selectmen and the Budget Committee have also recommended this measure.
Smaller capital projects also feature on the warrant, including $25,000 for Fire Department protective gear, $20,000 for improvements at Town Hall, $10,000 designated for the Hinsdale Historical Society, and another $10,000 aimed at enhancing the Community Center.
