Sudden Closure of Yellow Bell Café Marks Third Loss for Downtown Keene

The abrupt closure of Yellow Bell Café has left the city’s dining scene shaken, marking the third downtown establishment shuttered by owner Adam Berube within a year. Effective immediately, the café’s doors closed, concluding a brief but vibrant chapter since its launch in March 2025.

Occupying the former Yahso Jamaican Grille location at 45 Main St., Yellow Bell Café quickly gained popularity due to its inviting atmosphere and a unique twist on breakfast staples. Guests enjoyed a range of dishes from huevos rancheros to gourmet doughnuts, reflecting Berube’s vision of marrying comfort with culinary creativity, inspired by his own childhood experiences.

In an online message to patrons, Berube expressed gratitude for the community support, emphasizing the joy that residents brought to the café during its operation. He encouraged locals to keep backing the remaining downtown businesses that are facing tough times.

This closure follows the recent shutdown of Fireworks Restaurant in September 2025, which had been a staple of Main Street for nearly 14 years. Berube, who took ownership of Fireworks in 2022, had reopened it aiming to rejuvenate its beloved menu and workforce but ultimately cited ongoing economic difficulties for its closure.

In addition, Berube had previously run Muse Bistro before its closure, marking a challenging period for his restaurant ventures.

Berube’s appeal for continued patronage of other local businesses reflects the struggle many face in the current economic climate.
