A severe chimney fire on Sunday evening has resulted in considerable damage to a home located at 521 Northfield Road (Route 63) in Hinsdale. The fire emerged from the chimney and spread into the attic and the second floor of the residence, which was undergoing renovations at the time.

Hinsdale Fire Chief Terry Zavorotny reported that the fire was first detected around 8:45 p.m. Firefighters from Hinsdale, along with assistance from neighboring towns in New Hampshire, Massachusetts, and Vermont, were summoned to the scene due to the severity of the situation, escalating the incident to a two-alarm response.

Chief Zavorotny noted that the initial crew on-site managed to extinguish the flames swiftly, preventing further damage. Fortunately, there were no reports of injuries from this incident. However, the chief indicated that the structure will require extensive repairs to restore it to a livable condition. The exact cause of the fire, which originated in the chimney, remains undetermined.

Route 63 was closed temporarily to facilitate the firefighting efforts, causing disruptions near the Massachusetts state line. Emergency crews worked diligently to control the situation and prevent additional risks in the vicinity.
